Training Programmes at NGORC

February/March 1998

NGORC co-sponsored three Information and Technology Seminars that took place at the NGORC offices in Stone Town and the Island of Pemba. Over 50 representatives from Pemba and Unguja were in attendance for the Seminars which, regrettably, only lasted for two days each. Due to the number of interested parties on Unguja the seminar was given twice. The seminar was focused on Computer Basics and Internet and Email Basics and due to the lack of computers, it was taught in theory only and little, if any, practical application was possible for the attendants. At the end of the seminar attendants were asked to complete an evaluation form which revealed that, although they felt they learned from the theoretical seminars, there was still a strong need for practical application of the theory. Due to the overwhelming interest in the seminars and the results of the evaluation form requesting more such seminars, the NGORC is currently in the process of discussing the possible donation of several computers for training seminars and every day use by NGO members.

Special thanks to Oskar Holenweger for making the Seminars possible and for considering the NGOs need for computers.
