Green Room II
This room is a leftover portion of an original entertaining room which was used for parties and large gatherings. Shortly before the revolution, to increase the number of bedrooms in the house, the room was partitioned to create this small, narrow bed room.
When I took over this building, the windows on the right hand wall faced onto a large verandah which sits above the neighbors house. It was originally part of my building and the door just outside Green Two was the access onto the verandah. However, our wily next-door neighbors decided that since they owned what was below, they should also own what was above, and they took the case before the district judge.

Shortly afterwards, as I was passing through the market, I happened to see the judge's clerk at the shop of my neighbor’s brother. He was receiving a large paper bag, stuffed with notes. At that time, the largest shilling note in circulation was a two hundred. To buy a refrigerator one literally needed a suitcase full of notes.

I walked up to the gentleman and asked how he was doing. In front of witnesses, he stuttered back that things were just fine. Later in the day, two market porters come rushing in giggling to tell me that they had just delivered one crate of Omo detergent and a crate of Blue Band margarine from the brother's store to the house of the judge.
